Te Ohu Whakaari or the work collective is a forceful new generation of Maori perfomers. They began in May 1983 at the Wellington Arts Centre under the guidance of actor and director Rangimoana Taylor.
The programme looks at history, at the positive steps that the Maori people are taking today, and takes a very assured and practical look at the fututre of Maori people in New Zealand. The Hangman
Set in Picton in Mid-Nineteenth century New Zealand, a self-confessed convicted murderer is fully prepared to be hanged. But the town cannot find anyone willing to put a rope around his neck. This comedy of morals involves the machinations of two local politicians vying for the mayoralty, with the hiring of a suitable hangman the ‘test' of their ability t. The newly elected constable finds himself at the centre of the machinations as well as the object of a bored mayor's daughter's boredom and frustration.
